PL MONTHLY ROUNDUP: Premier League Football is Back Like it Never Left

Ladies and gentlemen the English Premier League is back, and with it, the roller-coaster of emotions, depending on which Premier League team you support of course.

With only 5 game weeks already played, so much has happened for us to not be entertained. Records have been shattered, others equalled, and refereeing controversies spotted… Here’s a recap of how the five Game weeks played out.

Gameweek 1

With the first match of GW1 kicking off on Friday the 5th of August, Arsenal kicked off the 2022/23 season in a spectacular manner compared to last season’s horrid start whereby they lost 3-0 to Premier League newcomers Brentford FC.

Playing against Crystal Palace, both Gabriel Jesus and Oleksander Zinchenko had stellar games, with Zinchenko picking up an assist for the first goal in their 2-0 win.

Liverpool: Liverpool fans were left shook as a shaky draw against Fulham prevented them from getting their first three points of the season.

During the horrid game at the Craven Cottage, Liverpool still had some few positives to take from the game. Mohamed Salah broke the record of consecutive times scored in the opening game of the season(6). Record signing Darwin Nunez also got himself in the scoresheet as he combined with Salah on two occasions to score and provide an assist for him.

Tottenham Hotspurs: Conte’s Tottenham got off to a good start as they start their quest as potential title contenders.

Man United: Erik Ten Hag’s tenor at Man United started out in the worst way possible as his Red Devils lost out 2-1 to Brighton for the first time at Old Trafford.

For most parts of the game, Man United players looked out of sync and vulnerable to concede, it is a wonder how they even got their consolation goal.

Man City: Erling Haaland finally settled to life at City with a brace as City won 2-0 vs West Ham. Before the game, some footballing fans were skeptical of the Norwegian mans skills following his subpar performance vs Liverpool in the FA community shield.

Gameweek 2

Arsenal: Gabriel Jesus grabbed himself a first Premier League goal for Arsenal as he missed out on the fun during the first gameweek.

Newcastle: The toons were forced to play their game vs Brighton with a warmup kit as there was apparently problems with how their official kits look.

Man City: De Bruyne was classy as ever as City comfortably defeated Bournemouth. Haaland wasn’t on the goalscoring list though as selfish Foden went for goal alone and was substituted moments after for that act of selfishness.

Man United: Things go from bad to worse for United as they get thrashed 4-0 by Brentford. DaSilva is two for two in two games as he opens the account for the Bees. Mee, Jensen, and Mbuemo also get on scoresheet as Brentford scores four before halftime.

Chelsea&Tottenham: Conte and Thomas Tuchel have a post-game scrap as Tottenham leave it late to score a controversial equalizer vs London rivals Chelsea.

Liverpool: Red fans were yet again left dumbfounded as Liverpool was held again, and newman Darwin Nunez got a red card on his Anfield debut. The Uruguayan headbutted Palace defender Andersen following a scuffle between the two.

Gameweek 3

Tottenham: Harry Kane pushes Tottenham to a scrappy 1-0 win vs Wolves, whom were defensively compact as ever.

Chelsea: Leeds United stunned Chelsea with a 3-0 win at Elland Road. A red card from Koulibaly and a series of blunders from Edouard Mendy led to this.

Man City: Guardiola’s man fightback to draw 3-3 with Newcastle. Allan Saint-Maximin has himself a stellar game but Man City was not about to let in to his trickery any longer.

Liverpool&Man United: Questions arise as Liverpool remain winless following their 2-1 loss to Man U at Old Trafford. Could last seasons quadruple charge be affecting the players both physically and mentally?

With relatively every top 6 club stunned, Arsenal top the standings as the only team without a loss nor a draw.

Gameweek 4

Bournemouth: Scott Parker is the first manager out following a record-equalling 9-0 dismantling at the hands of Liverpool.

Following that monumental win for Liverpool, many Fantasy Premier League managers turned to Twitter to express how enraged they were at Liverpool’s forward Mohamed Salah, whom missed out on the fun despite playing a full 90 minutes.

Man City: City came back from 2 goals down yet again to, this time fashionably win 4-2 against Viera’s Crystal Palace.

Erling Haaland grabbed himself his first PL hattrick in the match as he looks to go top of the goalscoring charts and break Salah’s 2017/18 record.

Chelsea: 10 man Chelsea win vs Leicester, and Sterling finally opens his account for Chelsea with a brace. Harvey Barnes pulled one back for Leicester but it would be nothing but a consolation goal.

Arsenal: In the last match of GW4, Gabriel rectifies his second half mistake to win Arsenal the match vs Fulham 2 goals to 1.

Despite the loss, Mitrovic and Fulham are out for a good start to life in the Premier League, some may argue that they actually stand a chance of not getting relegated this season.

Gameweek 5

Man City: Haaland scores yet another hattrick as City win 6-0 home to Nottingham Forest. Cancelo gets in on the action too as Steve Cooper’s men are thrashed.

Arsenal: The Gunners are 5/5 for the first time in almost 20 years. A late Gabriel Martinelli winner allowed the Gunners to keep their win streak alive and clinch a 2-1 home victory against Aston Villa. In the match prior to that, they needed to come back from a 1-0 deficit at home against Fulham.

Liverpool: The Reds controversially comeback to win 2-1 vs Newcastle. With relatively the clock and added time already over, the referee continues play for a further three minutes, and right there and there, Liverpool score the winner.
