My Early Premier League Predictions 22/23

The 2022/23 Premier League season is nearing its commencement, and the focus has already shifted to making predictions for the 2022/23 Premier League season.

With that said, it’s time to gaze at the entire Premier League table and predict where every team will finish in the upcoming season.

Will Manchester City defend their title, or will Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea put pressure on them? And who will be relegated to the Championship in May? Step right in to my unofficial predictions for the new season if you’re ready to be enraged…

Disclaimer: I will only explain my reasons for the placement of the top six only.

1. Manchester City

In the past 5 seasons, Man City have won 4 of the 5 Premier League titles up for grabs and now they have just bolstered their squad with Erling Haaland, a generational talent that bangs goals for fun, need I say more?

Man City will be retaining the English Premier League title, and that’s that.

2. Liverpool

As much as it hurts, Liverpool will not be winning the Premier League title for a third time running. Following the departure of the instrumental Sadio Mane, Liverpool’s legendary trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane has come to a heart wrenching end.

While the omission of Mane from the Liverpool squad does not mean a drop in form or talent from the remaining players, the signings of Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, and Calvin Ramsay will be enough to keep Liverpool in second but not enough to go over Man City, whom have an unmatched squad depth as they have signed Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, and are set to sign Marc Cucurella and Kalvin Phillips too.

3. Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur only just pipped rivals Arsenal to fourth place last season, but one imagines that they could be a real force to be reckoned with once Antonio Conte has more control over personnel and a full pre-season to work with them.

The Italian tactician has shown in the past what he can achieve if he’s given top players to work with, and with the likes of Yves Bissouma and Ivan Perisic coming to the White Hart Lane, one could only speculate how good this Spurs team will be.

4. Arsenal

I predict Arsenal to finish fourth. With the signing of Gabriel Jesus all but done, Arsenal might finally have someone technically good at the end of their moves and crosses in to the box.

Obviously, Gabriel Jesus is not a natural number 9, but his style of play and movement in and around the box allows him to fit right in to Arsenal’s system, which is possession orientated.

His pace too will allow for high pressure presses when off the ball, something that Arsenal have been failing to achieve with Alexandre Lacazette uptop. Anyhow, with Centre back William Saliba also set to return from loan, Arsenal will have a young, talented team full of depth.

5. Chelsea

With Sevilla’s Jules Kounde all but certain for a move to Barcelona, and the likes of Marc Cucurella and Gabriel Jesus likely to join Manchester City and Arsenal respectively, Chelsea’s next season endeavors already look all doom and gloom as a transfer hitlist that also includes Robert Lewandowski and Ousmane Dembele might be missed out on.

And with that all going on, Lukaku might be set for a return to the San Siro after just a season back at the Stamford Bridge.

As things stand, If Chelsea doesn’t replace the holes left by Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Timo Werner, and Romelu Lukaku, they will not be finishing anywhere but outside the top four.

6. Manchester United

While the appointment of Erik Ten Hag doesn’t guarantee them a top 4 finish, I believe that a sixth place finish in Ten Hag’s first season is very much possible, and can be seen as a positive. (yep, this is how low Man U have gotten)

Man U are currently under a rebuilding phase following a series of horrid stints under a number of coaches, so, Ten Hag is gonna have to experiment a couple of times till he finds his best formula. That might work or backfire at times, but either way Man U are in safe hands, and I think that they might do good in the Europa League and potentially go on to win the trophy under Ten Hag.
