PL MONTHLY ROUNDUP: So Close, Yet So Far In The End

Liverpool’s dreamlike season came to a sour conclusion as the Reds narrowly lost both the English Premier League and a UEFA Champions League final to Man City and Real Madrid, thus serving a final blow to the stomach for Liverpool’s quadruple aspirations.

Playing their second European final against each other in Paris, The Reds were gripping into the fact that they were the last team to beat Real Madrid in a ucl final. A feat that took place in Paris too!

Hoping to do a number on Madrid like previously, Liverpool found themselves dumbfounded by a Vinicious Jr goal and a Thibaut Courtois goalkeeping masterclass, which to put into context, made Salah swallow everything he had said ahead of the final.

Finishing the season with only a domestic double, Liverpool fans were seemingly left disappointed by this, and were seen venting about the loss.

Gunners Gunned Down To A Europa League Spot

With six wins in seven Premier League matches, Arsenal had firmly established themselves as contenders for finishing in the top four this season, which would guarantee a berth in the Champions League the following season. But then came the collapse.

A thumping 3-0 loss to Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw the Gunners lose their vicegrip on the fourth spot, and a subsequent loss to Newcastle United left them teetering on the edge of missing out yet again.

Despite their final-day thrashing of Everton, Arsenal could not stop Tottenham, who in their right displayed total superiority on the final matchday, from securing the final ucl spot.

Leeds Survive at the Demise of Burnley

Elsewhere, Burnley were relegated from the Premier League on Sunday, the final day of the 2021/22 season.

The Clarets had to better the result of relegation rivals Leeds to extend their six-season stay in English football’s top flight. But Burnley lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle while Leeds won 2-1 away to Brentford.
